Three youths were arrested on Sunday at Charkop for allegedly harassing a 17-year-old girl because she refused to accept their advances.
The police said the youths, Pinak Chavan, 18, Suraj Sagar, 21 and a 17-year-old boy sent the victim lewd text messages. They also made obscene phone calls and sent a parcel containing lingerie and sex toys, the police added.
The harassment began seven months ago. They said Chavan and the minor studied in the same school as the victim and also lived in the same area. The police said the boys introduced the victim to Sagar. Sagar and Chavan tried to woo the girl who rejected their advances, the police said.
Chavan then stole a SIM card from another girl in his college and lent it to Sagar. “Sagar began making calls and lewd messages on the father’s phone because the victim did not own one,” said Vasant Devarkar, senior police inspector . “They also harassed her by registering false police reports of criminal activity at the girl’s house,” Devarkar said.
The victim’s family lodged an FIR on July 21. “We traced the calls to a girl from Chavan’s college. After questioning the girl’s close friends, we picked up Chavan and the minor who led us to Sagar,” Devarkar said.
