While the south Mumbai police are yet to solve the murder of two young girls in Cuffe Parade, a body of another three-year-old girl was found floating off the seashore in the area on Thursday. Though the body was found in the same area as that of the other children, the police have ruled out the possibility of a serial killer. The police suspect the girl’s father – who has gone missing since the incident – is involved in the crime.
A post-mortem report received by the police later in the day stated the deceased, Angel, had been raped and then throttled to death.
Angel, 3, went missing from her maternal grandmother’s home in Ambedkar Nagar in the early hours of Thursday. “Around 6am, we received a call from the watchman of Maker Tower building L saying a girl’s body was floating in water,” said Iqbal Shaikh, assistant commissioner of police (Colaba division).
The police team then informed Angel’s mother, Suzanne Sharma, who reached the spot and identified the body.
“On Tuesday, Suzanne had a fight with Angel’s father and her first husband, Rajeev Sharma, over who would take care of Angel. Sharma had told Suzanne he would show her within two days what needed to do be done with the child.”
Suzanne got married to Sharma in 2008 and was separated the next year. In 2011, she married Ajay Jadhav and shifted to his Shiv Shakti Nagar residence in Cuffe Parade. Both work as waiters.
Sharma, a state transport bus driver, was missing. “He initially told us he was in Uttar Pradesh and later said he was in Kerala. We are looking for him,” said an officer from Cuffe Parade police station.
