A three-year-old boy, who had gone missing from his Kandivli home on November 14, was found dead near the banks of a nullah in Goregaon on Friday.

Police said the boy fell into a 100-foot-deep nullah that runs close to his house while playing and drowned. Two days later, his body was swept ashore at Bangur Nagar.

The autopsy report has confirmed the boy had drowned, though the police are still probing the case from all angles.

According to the police, Ganesh stayed at Sardar chawl in Gandhi Nagar, Kandivli (West) with his parents and three siblings. His father Vinod, 30, works as a peon in a private company.

At around 11am on Wednesday, Ganesh was playing close to the nullah outside his house. When he did not return home several hours later, his parents started looking for him, but could not find him. Eventually, they approached the Kandivli police station and filed a missing complaint on the same day.

Two days later, the Bangur Nagar police received a call from local residents about a child’s body caught in the bushes on the sidewalls of a nullah at Goregaon. The body had probably been swept along by the current all the way from Kandivli to Goregaon, the police said.

The boy’s body was then sent to the Borivli post-mortem centre for an autopsy. The police registered a case of accidental death and transferred the case to the Kandivli police, said senior inspector R Bagul of the Bangur Nagar police station, after which the autopsy report arrived.

“The post-mortem report revealed that the child had drowned. However, we are investigating the case from all angles,” said H Pimple , senior inspector, Kandivli police station.

As the family received no ransom calls, it is not likely to be a kidnapping case , the police said.
