Within a day of the agitation beginning, more than 30,000 people pledged their support to the Lokpal Bill and 300 joined as members on Facebook.
Organisers of the India Against Corruption said 30,000 people from Maharashtra expressed their support on their website www.indiaagainstcorruption.org. Likewise, more than 300 members joined the Facebook page of India Against Corruption (IAC) – Mumbai. The number of members on the Facebook page has gone up from 1,712 to 2,050 with people discussing various aspects of the Jan Lokpal Bill and the people who drafted it.
“The rise in numbers was seen after Tuesday’s agitation. So far, around 5 to 10 people had been joining us daily after receiving requests from friends. But from Tuesday, large numbers of people began joining without being asked,” said Ruben Mascarenhas, India Against Corruption, Mumbai.
Meldan D’Cunha, a members on the page, said, “Till Tuesday none of us knew how to fight corruption, but today we know what the tool against it is. Let’s stand up together and fight to get the Bill introduced in Parliament.”
“To support the cause, give us a missed call on 022 61550789 and express support,” Mascarenhas said.
