Around 10am, the fishermen found the body floating in the sea opposite Taraporewala aquarium, following which they informed the police control room. The police fished out the body and found a diary in his pocket with several phone numbers, after which the deceased was identified as Krishna Sarmalkar, a resident of Patthe Bapurao Marg, Charni Road.
“The deceased was only wearing a trouser and we found the pocket diary from his possession. His body was later handed over to his family, who claimed he had been into depression after he lost his job recently,” said Amit Babar, sub inspector of Marine Drive police station.
The body was sent to GT Hospital, but no external injuries were found on Sarmalkar’s body. A post-mortem will be conducted and the body will be handed over to the family, police said.
Man attempts suicide
A 23-year-old man working with a private bank attempted suicide by consuming poison inside Mahim police station on Thursday night.
The police said the man tried to kill himself after a dispute with his wife. “The duo got married in 2012 after which there were frequent arguments between them. The man’s wife had issued a divorce notice,” said a police officer from Mahim police station.
“On Friday, the man went to his wife’s office but she did not want to talk to him and approached us. We called him to the police station when he suddenly removed a powder and consumed it. His family was also present.”
“He was shifted to hospital and is out of danger.”
