Keeping up efforts to create more low-cost housing in Mumbai, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has decided to redevelop two of its biggest lower middle class colonies, Kannamwar Nagar and Tagore Nagar, in Vikhroli.

These projects will create 31,370 low-cost homes, 8,425 in Kannamwar Nagar and 22,945 in Tagore Nagar.

Amarjeet Singh Manhas, chairman of Mhada’s Mumbai Board, told Hindustan Times that this was the best opportunity for creating a stock of good-quality, low-cost homes. “We will float a global tender to pick the best of contractors to execute the project.”
