After more than 20 BEST employees allegedly assaulted a traffic policeman’s 15-year-old son, four of them were arrested on Wednesday.
The boy was enquiring about the whereabouts of the BEST bus driver who nearly injured him. The incident took place around 6pm on Wednesday when the victim, a Class 10 student of Students Welfare College in Versova was walking home, said the police.
A speeding bus number 210, allegedly brushed past the boy before entering the Versova depot. “My son went to the depot by which time, the driver had disappeared. When my son asked the conductor about the driver, he denied knowledge about his whereabouts and went to the restroom where my son followed him,” said the victim’s father, Siraj Shaikh, a sub inspector attached with the traffic police department.
“The conductor along with more than 20 BEST employees assaulted my son. Passengers at the bus stop nearby rushed and rescued the boy after hearing his screams. One of them called the police and the boy informed me about the incident,” Shaikh added.
The police took the BEST employees and the victim to Versova police station.
“Even after my son told the police that more than 20 men assaulted him, the case was registered only against four of them,” Shaikh stated.
Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Amitabh Gupta said: “We arrested them under section 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt).”
