Four labourers were killed and five others grievously injured after the boring machine truck, in which they were travelling, fell on them as it turned upside down on the Torangan Ghat in Thane on Monday. The truck was carrying over 30 pipes, weighing 70 kilos each.
Eleven labourers were sitting on the pipes being carried in the truck from Nashik to Thane. The police said that the accident took place around 3.30pm.
“While four of the eleven labourers reportedly died on the spot, five others who suffered grievous head injuries were taken to Nashik civil hospital. Two other labourers escaped with minor injuries,” said an official from the Mokhada police station.
The driver, who was also injured, has been booked under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death due to negligence. He will be arrested after being discharged. His blood samples have been taken to find out if he was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
