The accident-prone Palm Beach road in Navi Mumbai claimed its first victim this year on Saturday afternoon. Four-and-a-half-month-old Ayush died after his father Vikrant Nimkar reportedly lost control of the four-wheeler. While Nimkar escaped with minor injuries, his wife Gauri is in a critical state.
The incident occurred at 12.30pm when the Nimkars, residents of Shah Arcade in sector 6 of Kharghar, were driving from Vashi towards Kharghar. “As the Chevrolet Spark reached Nerul junction, Vikrant seems to have lost control of the car, which ended up in a ditch on the side of the road,” said Rajkumar Chaphekar, senior police inspector of Nerul police station.
“The baby was killed on the spot. Gauri was rushed to Manek hospital in Nerul where she has been admitted to the ICCU. Vikrant suffered minor injuries,” Chaphekar added.
Vikrant is in a state of shock at the hospital and unable to speak. His relatives said that he works for a pharmaceutical company in Vikhroli. Gauri has not been informed about the death of the child, they said.
Dr Rajesh Patil of Manek hospital said, “Gauri has suffered head and hand injuries. She is in a serious condition.”
The police are waiting for Nimkar to overcome the grief before they ask him details about the accident.
