Four young men died after the car they were travelling in hit a tree and crashed into a concrete barrier at Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai early Sunday morning.
While three of them died instantly, the fourth was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The youth have been identified as Sunny Sharma, 22, a resident of Sector 19, Kopar Khairane village; Tarundeep Sandhu, 18, resident of Sector 22 in Kopar Khairane; Nilesh Bhatt, 21, of Sector 15 in Vashi and Rakesh Chavan, 22, a resident of Sector 17 in Kamothe.
The incident occurred around 5.30 am on the Nerul section of the road, near a pond. Inspector Yeshwant Chavan of Nerul police station, said, “The boys were traveling from Belapur to Vashi, when the person at the wheel seems to have lost control of the car. The car hit a tree off the road and crashed into a concrete barrier.”
Chavan said, “Three of the boys died instantly and one was taken to DY Hospital nearby but was declared dead on arrival.
“Sunny worked as a mechanic, while Tarun and Nilesh were preparing to give their Class 12 exams. Rakesh helped his father in the construction busines,” he added. Police sources said beer bottles were found inside the car. Chavan said, “We are awaiting the post mortem report to find out if the boys were drunk. There is no confirmation at the moment.”
