A 19-year-old man flung a four-year-old girl out of a speeding train on Tuesday morning when her father refused to give him a seat. The girl, Sadhana Jamdade, landed head first on the tracks and lay there bleeding as several trains passed by.

The incident occurred at 5.45 am when Sameer Jamdade, his wife Kalpana, brother Sunil, and Sadhana were returning home to Gandhari village in Kalyan.

The family had come to Mumbai on Monday to visit Chaityabhoomi at Shivaji Park on the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

“We decided to take the Bhusaval Express so that we reach Kalyan early,” Sameer said, as he waited outside the intensive care unit of Sion Hospital where Sadhana was admitted with severe head injuries and multiple fractures.

As soon as the train arrived at Dadar, Sameer rushed into the general compartment and claimed an entire berth., aware of the scramble for seats in trains in Mumbai.
