This monsoon, enjoy faster bus service between the suburbs and the city. The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) will start 40 new bus services along four corridors connecting the city with the eastern and western suburbs and Navi Mumbai.
The specialty of the new routes is that it will not have more than five stops. These routes will begin from Dahisar on the western suburbs, Mulund on the eastern suburbs and Navi Mumbai till Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Churchgate.
Many of these buses will start from Sion and Mahim bus depots.
In case of any breakdown the buses will be repaired at these depots.
"These routes have been decided on pilot basis. If it turns out to be successful then we can expand the routes," said BEST General Manager OP Gupta.
Each of these bus routes will run 10 services to and from during the entire day, taking the total number of services to 40.
The BEST is planning to colour these buses.
They have identified yellow, grey, blue and green colours for the purpose.
The buses will be painted depending on the specific routes.
“The indicator of the buses would have letter 'C' that will help people to identify it as a special bus running from end-to-end,” said a BEST official.
Initially all these buses would be the normal red-coloured ones.
As of now air-conditioned buses are not part of it.
