The DB Marg police, led by additional commissioner of police (south region), raided the five-storey Simplex Building at Grant Road and rescued at least 400 women and minors.

The police have also arrested 60 persons, including pimps and customers. The raid was still underway at the time of going to press.

Several teams of the DB Marg police raided the building, located at Pavalla Street, around 8.30 pm and found the women and girls in several small rooms and cubicles in the structure.

Krishna Prakash, additional commissioner of police (south region), said, “When we entered the building, we found five to six girls in every room and cubicle. A team of around 20 policemen including an assistant commissioner of police began the raid post 9 pm and the process is still underway,” Prakash said.

Police officers involved in the raid claimed that several of the rescued were minors and that they would now take the help of the Special Branch II to ascertain if they were Bangladeshi nationals.

The raided building has been a prostitution den for long and the latest action was taken following a tip-off.
