The body of 45-year-old woman was found floating inside a well in Malad on Thursday morning.

Although a handwritten suicide note was found on her, the police have not ruled out murder.

The police identified the deceased as Madhuri Chandraprakash Khetan, a resident of Adarsh apartment in Malad (West).

Khetan is survived by her husband, two daughters and an 18-year-old disabled son.

According to the police, around 8.30 am, residents of Nadiadwala chawl in Malad called the fire brigade to rescue a crow, entangled in a kite string on a tree.

Even as the fire brigade was rescuing the bird, a resident who was drawing water from a nearby well, saw a huge object floating inside.

The fire brigade personnel present in the area used a long stick to identify the object as a human body. The residents then informed the local police.

Inspector Deepak Patangare said that the fire brigade officials then removed the body from the well.

The police said the body was partially decomposed, indicating that it was in the water for a day.

The police said the woman was wearing a salwar-kameez and sports shoes.

The woman also had a back-belt tied around her waist which held a pouch containing Rs 8,000 and a note in Hindi

saying: “This money is for my last rites.”

The body was sent to Bhagwati hospital for post-mortem.

“Our initial investigations say that she was under depression because of her son’s disability. However, we are investigating all the possible angles for this and have not ruled out murder,” Patangare said.
