The Vakola police on Friday arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman after threatening to kill her husband.

The incident came to light after the woman confided in her husband after seeing photographs of herself, in which she was termed a sex worker, in Santacruz (East) on Thursday.

The accused, Nagesh Kunchikure, a contractual plumber with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), was in a relationship with the victim uptil three-and-a-half years ago, following which she severed ties with him.

The police said that about one-and-a-half years ago, Kunchikure re-established contact with her. He threatened to show her husband old pictures of them if she did not have physical relations with him.

“When she did not relent even after threatening her, he allegedly raped her on January 5 at a ground in the Mumbai university’s Kalina campus, while threatening to kill her husband,” said an official from the Vakola police.

According to the Vakola police, Kunchikure is also married and lives in Bhayander with his wife and children. He met the victim five years ago at a tattoo parlor, where she worked as a tattoo artist.

“We are investigating to see if Kunchikure was the one who put up the woman’s photographs,” said the official.
