With Navi Mumbai emerging as an attractive residential destination, there is good news for homebuyers as the planning authority of the region, Cidco, has begun work on an affordable mass housing project of around 5,000 flats.

Cidco had started construction on a project comprising 1,224 houses for middle-income and high-income groups in Kharghar six months ago. On January 8, its board gave a final approval for the construction of another 3,590 houses for low-income groups.

The lottery could be held in 18 months, while the houses will be ready in three years, said officials.
