Five teenagers were arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl living in Worli. The police are on the lookout for one more accused.
According to the Dadar police, the victim had been raped four times over the last month.
Most recently, on Tuesday, two of the accused raped her in a taxi. Five of the six accused are residents of Worli and are in their late teens, while the sixth is a 41-year-old taxi driver.
The incident came to light on Wednesday, when the victim’s father, a clerk in a city hospital, asked his daughter where she was the previous night, after which she told him of the various instances over the last month. Her father approached us and we arrested the accused.” said senior police inspector AD Unde from the Dadar police station.
The victim told the police that she was walking past a school in Dadar on Tuesday night, around 11:30 pm, when Ashwin Modkar, 19, and Pawan Angre, 18, came in a taxi and offered to take her for a drive. Anand Langde, 41, was driving the taxi. The victim agreed The trio then parked the car in an isolated spot near Kirti College.
“Angre got out of the taxi to keep guard, while Modkar and Langde took turns in raping the victim,” said Unde.
The victim also told the police about the previous instances of rape. “The victim said that one Mahesh Mane, 19, who went to the same tuition class as the victim, had called her to his residence under the pretext of helping him cook food on May 3. When she reached there, Mane along with another youngster, allegedly raped the victim,” said police sub inspector S Jadhav from Dadar police station.
“Following this, one Hitesh Kalokh, 19, a college student, called the victim to his house on May 7 and allegedly raped her. She also alleged that on Monday when she was seated near open ground in the Worli area, Ashwin Modkar, 19, another local raped her,” added Jadhav.
Senior inspector AD Unde from Dadar police station, said that they had arrested Mane, Kolhekar, Modkar, Angre and Landge under and charged them with gang rape.
They suspect the sixth accused has fled the city.
“We have sent the victim for medical tests and are awaiting the reports,” he said.
The accused were presented before the local court and were remanded in police custody until June 9.
