The father of the boy who was murdered by four of his seniors has said that the accused should be hanged to death.
Ram Gaikwad, speaking from Latur told HT that he had never expected the boys to kill his 11-year-old son Suraj in such a gruesome manner. “Every parent expects their child to return home from school safely. We never imagined that this could have happened to us,” said Gaikwad.
Gaikwad said that his son knew the four accused and he never suspected that they could have killed him.
Sources said that that Yogesh Piple, Kishor Datar, Balaji Barkate and Vilas Adawade, all first year students of a junior college killed Suraj after abducting him on February 11.
“They lured him inviting him for a birthday party and took him to Zari village in Ahmedpur tehsil. After holding him hostage, they called his father and demanded R1 crore as ransom. When they did not get any response they strangulated him and dumped his body in a local pond after tying his hands behind his back and tying a stone to his body,” a source said while adding that the police traced the accused on the basis of the phone call and questioned the four boys.
On February 13, under intense interrogation, they accepted the crime and the body was fished out of the pond on the morning of February 14, sources said.
Gopal Rajankar, the police inspector at Shivaji Nagar police station in Latur said the accused have been charged with abduction and murder. “They are currently in remand home as they are juvenile,” he said.
