MUMBAI: A 52-year-old man was killed and six others were injured after the SUV they were travelling in crashed into a divider on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road early on Tuesday.
According to the police, the incident was reported to them around 5am on the T junction of the road. All of them are from Vaijapur in Aurangabad and had come to Mumbai for some work in the Mantralaya. The white Scorpio car was driven by Kaduba Ghodke.
“The Scorpio was going towards Mumbai when Ghodke took a sudden turn at high speed. As it was early morning, there was no traffic. Ghodke did not see the two-feet-high divider and crashed the left side of the car into it,” said senior police inspector Shiridhar Hanchate, Vikhroli police station.
Ghodke was not drunk, the officer said. Bhaskar Ayre, 60, who died in the accident, was sitting in the front. His legs were completely crushed. Ayre was pulled out from the car wreck and was declared brought dead at Rajawadi hospital, the police said. Ghodke has been booked for rash driving causing death. Ghodke will be arrested after he is discharged, police said, adding the SUV was rented.
