The Thane police have arrested a woman in possession of 15 kg of charas. The police said that the accused was planning to supply this drug to New Year parties across the city. The arrest was made by Thane Crime Branch Unit-1.
The accused, Najma Abdul Sheikh, 52, a resident of Naupada in Thane (W), was arrested from her residence on December 26 at 6.30 pm.
Pandit Kendre, assistance police commissioner, crime branch unit 1, said, “Senior inspector of unit 1 got a tip-off that a women residing next to Khoja Kabristan Lane was allegedly in possession of and was selling large quantities of the drug. The police raided Sheikh’s residence and found six huge packets of charas weighing 15 kg and Rs7,300 in cash. We learnt that she was going to sell this stock for New Year parties.”
The police have booked her under section 8, 20 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. Kendre said, “She had cases of attempted murder and assault against her, however, this is the first time that we caught her under the narcotics act. Her husband was allegedly arrested under the narcotics act and now owns a hotel on the Jalgaon Bhusawal Road. Sheikh resides with her son and daughter-in-law in Thane.”
