The Deonar police on Tuesday arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl. According to the police, the accused, who resides in the victim’s locality, allegedly raped her five months ago when his wife had gone to her native place.
It was after the results of the victim’s medical report, which showed that she was four months pregnant, came out on Monday that her parents approached the Deonar police station, where a case was registered.
According to the Deonar police, the incident took place in September when Ramesh Davle’s wife had gone to her native place. “Davle, who is not employed, got the victim to come to his house when his wife was away. He raped her and threatened her against telling anyone about the incident,” said an officer from the Deonar police station, requesting anonymity. The accused resides with his wife and his son stays separately.
The girl’s father is a painter and she has two siblings, both brothers. She was not studying and was helping her mother at home, the police said.
Both the families were known to each other and that is how Davle could easily get her to come to his residence, they added.
The victim was intimidated by the threats and did not tell anyone about the incident for five months.
As time passed, the victim’s parents observed that she was not keeping well and kept largely to herself, the police said. “When the victim still did not speak up, the parents suspected something was amiss and got a medical test done. The test showed that the victim was four months pregnant,” added the officer.
Her parents then took the victim into confidence, after which she told them about the incident involving Davle, the police said. “The parents approached us on Tuesday. Based on the medical report and the victim’s statement, a case of rape was registered and the accused was arrested,” said P Panaskar, senior inspector, Deonar police station.
