Though the city received moderate rainfall, six incidents of wall collapse were reported on Thursday morning in Matunga, Chira Bazaar, Bhandup, Kandivli (West), Jogeshwari (West) and Santacruz (West).
Though there were no injuries in any of the incidents, around 26 residents of the five-storey Vijay Niwas building in Bhandup (West) were rescued by the fire brigade personnel after the common passageway on the second floor collapsed, bringing down the entire dilapidated structure.
"Evacuation notices had been issued to residents and the building was to be taken up for redevelopment. However, the builder had delayed taking up the reconstruction and no work had begun," said Ramakant Biradar, assistant commissioner of S ward.
Meanwhile, suburban services of Central Railway were affected and running behind schedule for the second day in a row.
Though, CR officials were claiming that trains were running only 5-10 minutes late, commuters told HT that trains were 20 to 30 minutes late for several hours. CR officials said there was no particular reason for the delay.
Harbour line services were running just 5-10 minutes late. CR officials said due to safety reasons, trains were being run cautiously during monsoon.
CR services were badly affected twice due to heavy rain in this week. On Wednesday, main line services were running more than an hour late, as portion of the track sank due to micro-tunnelling work near Thane and soil slippage at Vangani.
