A six-year-old boy died after falling into a water tank made at an under-construction site in Andheri west on Sunday.
A case of causing death due to negligence was registered on Monday against the on-duty watchman and a tanker-driver by the Amboli police.
The incident took place between 4pm and 5pm at Azad Nagar on J P Road in Andheri west when Roshan Sonar, 6, who was playing in the area, peeped into the water tank, lost balance and fell into it, said the police. Roshan was a student of class 1 from an Andheri-based school.
Roshan’s father Prakash Sonar, 36, is employed as a watchman at the same site. His wife was sleeping and he was playing with Roshan as he was off-duty. The child, trying to hide from his father, went behind the building where he fell into the tank,” said Machinder Bodke, inspector of Amboli police station.
Around 8pm, Sonar found Roshan’s body when he was searching for him. He immediately rushed the boy to Cooper Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Sonar, 36, approached the police alleging that his son had died due to the negligence of the builder and the contractor of the project.
“As per the norms, the water tank at a construction site must have corners and most importantly, should be covered. During the course of investigation, it was found that both these rules have been flouted. We have registered a case of causing death due to negligence against a watchman who was on duty at the time of the mishap and the tanker-driver who filled the water tank. No arrests have been made yet,” said Bodke.
