The Azad Maidan police on Saturday arrested a 78-year-old man from an old age home in Airoli for allegedly claiming to be a doctor and cheating a 20-year-old woman. The accused, identified as Pravin Parikh alias Baba Santdas, promised to cure the victim of a chronic skin disease, Azad Maidan police said.
According to the police, the woman registered the complaint after Parikh, who had promised to help her get rid of some white patches on her skin, ran away with cash and jewellery she was wearing, totally worth Rs33,000.
On June 20, the girl, a final year degree college student was passing through Pydhonie, when Parikh stopped her. He said he was a doctor and could help her get rid of the whites patches on her skin. On July 1, Parikh took her to a hotel in south Mumbai, where he gave her some tablets for the white patches. She, however, fell unconscious. When she woke up, she found her cash and jewellery missing, police said.
“We tracked Parikh to a senior citizen’s home in Vashi,” said B Bhawale, senior inspector.
