A 79-year-old woman was found murdered in her ground-floor house at Dadar on Thursday. Sita Narayan (79) was found with her throat slit. Her gold mangalsutra, ring and four bangles were missing.

Her husband Anant (90) found her body in the bedroom around 7 pm after he returned home from work. He works for Rajshree Productions and they have two sons — one lives in Kandivli and the other in Pune.

The watchman of the three-storey building is on leave for the past two days. "A case of murder and robbery has been registered," said Madhukar Sankhe, Assistant Commissioner of Police.

At least four lakh senior citizens live alone in Mumbai and 188 senior citizens have been killed in the past decade. In 2009, more than 30 senior citizens were victims of murders and robberies.
