While scanning a parcel as part of their routine check, an Andheri-based courier firm found 80gm of charas in a packet addressed to Atlanta City in the US with Sagar Shah as the sender.
According to the police, Shah, on Wednesday, handed over the packet to be delivered in the US to a local courier service firm. As is the practice with most small firms, the company, in turn, approached the Trans Air Express Private Limited in Andheri (East) for transporting the consignment.
“While small courier companies too possess scanners, their bigger counterparts scan and check the contents of very parcel to ensure that no suspicious item is transported. On scanning Shah’s packet, Trans Air Express Private Limited found it suspicious and immediately informed us,” said Shivaji Deshmukh, senior police inspector of Andheri police station.
On reaching the spot, the police opened the packet in the presence of the employees and found around 80gm of charas, worth Rs40,000, in it. “Shah’s Andheri (West) address mentioned on the packet is fake. We are trying to trace him. We aren’t sure if the name provided by the accused is true or no. We have registered a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act,” added Deshmukh.
