Two men died after drowning in a pond in Kalamboli on Thursday morning. The two had gone for their daily bath around 7.30am and did not return.

The victims, Barkat Khan, 21, and Shahrukh Khan, 17, ran a grocery shop in Kalamboli and were cousins.

When they did not return for a long time, anxious family members started a search and found the victims’ clothes lying near the pond. When informed, the police called in the fire personnel who found their bodies in the pond.

Nilesh Kadu, fire officer at Kalamboli, said, “There were no eyewitnesses to the boys drowning, but we initiated a search in the pond and finally found the two bodies. Nobody knows how they ended up there. Once can only guess that they slipped.”

Police have registered a case of accidental death.
