Paramdeep Parminder Sandhu, 41, who has been arrested for drink driving and for assaulting policemen, did not let the cops go ahead with his blood test to determine the alcohol level in his blood, officials alleged on Monday.

“When the doctor approached him to collect his blood sample, Sandhu started yelling obscenities at him and did not allow the doctor to even touch him,” said Nandkumar Mhetar, senior inspector of Versova police station.

However, on the basis of a preliminary medical examination by the doctor, Sandhu was booked under section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act for drink driving.

“The local court has said that his medical examination should be conducted, but we don’t know how helpful it will be as the blood-alcohol level would have been most precisely determined immediately after he was caught,” said Mhetar.

The police have seized Sandhu’s Ford Endeavour. It will be inspected by the Regional Transport Office on Tuesday to ascertain if the accident occurred because of human error or a mechanical defect.

Sandhu told the police he owns a film production company and lives in a society on Juhu-Versova Link Road.

However, when HT visited Juhu Omkar society, security guards said there was no such resident or tenant in the building.

“It seems like Sandhu has given us a bogus address. He also said he owns a production house, but we have to verify it,” Mhetar said.
