An accused involved in several break-in cases escaped from police custody while being taken to court on Friday. Rajesh Dhere, in his twenties, was arrested on grounds of suspicion on Thursday night by the patrol team of the Wagle Estate police station. On interrogation, it was found that he was involved in an old case of break-in at the police station.

“Dhere is a resident of Anandnagar in Kopri and has two cases each of break-in and theft against him. He was taken to court on Friday. He was handcuffed and a rope, held by a constable, was tied to his cuffs. While alighting from the police vehicle near the court, he escaped by jerking his hand from the constable,” said deputy commissioner of police (Zone V), Ashok Morale.

The police have alerted all nearby police stations and four teams have been formed to trace the accused.
