The Savitribai Phule Gender Resource Centre (SPGRC), the Observer Research Foundation Mumbai (ORF) and activists of various NGOs met at a round-table conference on Saturday and jointly resolved to combat and prevent sexual and other gender-related crimes against women and children in India.

Participants at the conference, comprising doctors, legal experts, sociologists, teachers, students and the media, discussed ways for ‘Prevention of Woman and Child Sexual Abuse’ through community awareness and empowerment.

The resolution urges the prime minister to declare 2013 as the ‘Year to make India safe for women and children — everywhere, 24X7’.

It also appeals to all Mumbaiites, to government agencies, police, political parties, and various civil society organisations to pledge on December 31 to ‘Make Mumbai Safe for Women and Children — Everywhere, 24x7’.
