Navi Mumbai has a new police commissioner Ahmad Javed earlier posted as additional director general (establishment). He takes over from Gulabrao Pol.

Speaking after taking charge, Ahmad said, “I hope to continue the good work that my predecessors have done. I have got an excellent opportunity to work here and will try my best.”

Asked what ideas he could introduce, the new police commissioner said: “Before I talk about my plans, I will study the various aspects of the city and will ask for feed back from my predecessors and also meet the residents here.”

The police chief said he will modernise the cyber cell because cyber crime is the crime of the future.

Speaking on the relationship of the police with the public, Javed said, "It has to be positive, fair and just. There should be no doubt in people's mind that they will not get help from police. If there is no support from the people, the police will not succeed in their objective of maintaining law and order."

He also said that the people can contact him directly if they want. “Of course, it shouldn't be for very small things which can be solved at the local police station level.”

Assuring that the media too would get adequate response, Javed said, “We shall provide all information to the media. Of course on sensitive issues and where investigations could be hampered, we might be forced to delay the information for sometime.”

On corruption he said, “There is no question of tolerating them. Suffice to say that it is an absolute ‘nako’ from me to corruption. If it exists then stern action will be taken.”
