Alibaug woman dies of swine flu

Over the past two days, Mumbai recorded 27 new cases of swine flu. All the patients are being treated at various city hospitals across the city and four of them are from outside Mumbai.

In addition to the new cases, the public health department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also reported one death. A 28-year-old woman from Alibaug succumbed to the infectious disease on Thursday.

“The deceased was first admitted to NNMC Hospital in Vashi and later shifted to Kasturba Hospital on March 29, where she succumbed on Thursday. The patient, however, did not have any other comorbid conditions,” said a public health official from the BMC.

With the death of the Alibaug resident, the total death toll in the city reached 48, of which 18 were residents of Mumbai. The total number of swine flu stood at 1,841, of which only 220 were from outside the city. In the state, meanwhile, the death toll reached 425.

“No deaths were reported on Saturday,” said Dr Pradeep Awte, epidemiologist, state health department. The total number of swine flu cases across the state stood at 4,696.
