Suspended police inspector Nitin Sartape arrested for his involvement in the alleged fake encounter of Chhota Rajan aide, Ram Narayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya, has moved the sessions court seeking bail.

According to Sartape’s application, he has been “falsely implicated in the case and has nothing to do with the alleged offence”.

He said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had previously interrogated him and recorded his statement.

Sartape added that the SIT had sought his judicial custody on the day he was produced before the magistrate which suggests (Sartape’s) custodial interrogation was not necessary. He said nothing incriminating had been discovered in his case. “Sartape was shown as one of the members of the trap team without any specific role,” his application said.

Sartape said SIT’s prayer for judicial custody on the day of first remand suggests his arrest is a technical one as he was named in the First Information Report.
