Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, on Tuesday, urged commerce minister of Pakistan, Makhdoom Muhammad Amin Fahim, to facilitate the smooth release of Hindi films from India in their country.

Fahim met Chavan during his courtesy visit to the state legislature.

Fahim said that while there was no ban on Hindi movies from India, permission was required to release them in Pakistan.

Sources in the film industry said that Pakistan is one of the biggest markets for Hindi films from India.

"Our films are not released officially in Pakistan. They are watched widely on pirated CDs," said an analyst on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Chavan also appealed to Fahim to increase the quota of cotton and sugar being exported as Maharashtra has both the commodities in surplus.

Fahim assured Chavan that he would take up the issue with his Indian counterpart Anand Sharma.
