In a major crackdown on drug suppliers, the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) seized 22.5 kg of charas, 2.9 kg of brown sugar, and 4.3 gm of cocaine during the week.
The seized narcotics are worth an estimated Rs 2.75 crore in the international market.
The ANC has busted three major gangs and arrested 10 people, including a Nigerian.
“After we decided to crack down on suppliers and peddlers, ANC teams were mobilised,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria. “None of the accused have been arrested before.”
On Thursday, the Ghatkopar unit of the ANC arrested Ravi David (27) from Antop Hill with 1.1 kg of brown sugar.
On Sunday, Karjat resident Ghulam Rasool Khan (35) and Mohammed Arif Shaikh (32), hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from Borivli national park with 22 kg of charas.
“They used to smuggle charas from Mughal Sarai in UP by hiding them in gunny bags used for carrying rice or wheat,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deven Bharti.
The ANC also arrested Nigerian U.R. Opara (27) with 4.3 gm of cocaine from Byculla. “He has been peddling drugs for five years to high-profile people,” said Maria. Kalyan residents Munna Khan (40) and Abdul Gaffar Shaikh (37) were arrested with 750 gm of brown sugar on Sunday.
Last week, Bhawarsingh Rajput (40) of Madhya Pradesh, Bhagwanji Aajna (43) from Rajasthan, and Mohammed Akram Shaikh (43) from Vasai were arrested with 150 gm of brown sugar.
