Radha Alkar, the 39-year-old wife of Santosh who strangulated his two children to death and later committed suicide, returned to Mumbai from Singapore on Thursday afternoon, the police said.

Radha had been working as a domestic help with an Indian family in Singapore for the past year.

"Radha arrived in Mumbai around 3pm and was taken to Cooper hospital. The post mortem was kept on hold for her. Their bodies have now been sent to Sion hospital for an autopsy," said Pradip Gosavi, senior inspector, Andheri police station.

On Wednesday, Santosh had strangled his two children - Sunil, 10, and Mitali, 7, - to death and later killed himself at his residence in Tarun Bharati Cooperative Housing Society, Chakala, Andheri (East).

Santosh, the police said, had left a suicide note stating that he was severely diabetic and as there was no one to take care of his children in case he died, he was killing them as well.

"Radha has fallen extremely ill and has been vomiting ever since she arrived in Mumbai. She has been sobbing inconsolably," said Santosh Dotre, her cousin.

Dotre said this was the first time Radha had come home after she left a year ago.

Vijay Panchal, Santosh's brother-in-law, said Santosh, although unemployed, was a doting father.

"He would never compromise on anything the kids would want. He would take them to school every day. They were his life," he said.
