A 25-year-old woman allegedly jumped from the terrace of a five-storey building in Versova where she had been residing as a tenant for the past few months, on Sunday.

The Versova police station has registered a case of accidental death and has sent the body to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem.

According to the police, early on Sunday morning, residents of Amrut Tara Society woke up to find the body of Ruhina Khan. An officer from Versova police station. “We suspect that she jumped from the terrace. She had gone out for a party the previous night.”

Khan and her husband had moved in five months ago, the officer said, adding that they have questioned the neighbours and society officials.

“Khan is originally from Delhi and we have notified her family. Her husband is also currently in the capital. We will have more information once the family arrives,” the officer said.

The neighbours of the deceased told the police that the couple rarely stayed home. “Also, the neighbours did not seem to know much about them as they were new in the society,” the officer said, adding that they were going to question the owner of the house.

The police are inquiring if anyone had visited the deceased before the incident. “We will question her husband to check if there was any domestic dispute,” the officer said.

Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police (west region), said the police were waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
