Entrepreneur Anil Ambani plans a takeover of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Hollywood studio in an attempt to become one of the world’s most powerful film bosses, a Daily Telegraph report said on Saturday.
A spokesperson for the Anil Ambani Group declined to comment on the issue.
Ambani already owns a controlling stake in Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks studio and has struck a series of deals with Hollywood stars like Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey, Julia Roberts and George Clooney to develop their films.
The Reliance Big Pictures’ current blockbuster Three Idiots has broken Indian box office records.
He hopes to expand his influence with an ambitious bid for MGM, the Hollywood studio that owns the James Bond franchise, the report said.
Sources close to Ambani confirmed his interest in acquiring MGM and said it would help him achieve his ambition of becoming the world’s most powerful film mogul, it added.
