Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare criticised Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi without naming him by saying that the water supply problem will not be resolved by simply visiting villages.
Hazare was addressing media at Parel on Tuesday when he said, “Some Yuvraj (prince) comes in a chopper and visits villages. This will not solve the water supply problem. One needs thorough planning for that. Neither is providing water tankers the solution for drought. Rainwater should be stored using scientific methods, which is not happening.”
Hazare was in Mumbai to address a public meeting at Kamgar Maidan, Parel, as part of his month-long Maharashtra rally for a strong lokayukta. He said he would repeat such rallies as the general and assembly elections approach to pressurise the government for passing lokpal and lokayukta bills.
He also criticised the state government for spending crores of rupees in water schemes, which haven’t shown any results. “The state government has issued water scheme tenders worth crores of rupees, but is still not able to supply water to villages. It is shameful.”
Hazare did not even spare PM Manmohan Singh and the chief minister. “Earlier, I believed the PM is a clean man, but the comptroller and auditor general report and relevant documents indicate his involvement in the allocation during his tenure. If he is clean, an independent investigation committee should be appointed for the inquiry,” said Hazare.
Targeting CM Prithviraj Chavan, Hazare said there is lack of law and order in the state, adding that his car was attacked during a Nagpur visit, but no action has been taken in the case.
