Another accused in the Powai rape case was arrested from Chandigarh and brought to Mumbai on Sunday evening.

Estate agent Chandrakant Gupta is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl along with senior police inspector Arun Borude and realtor Chand Mohan.

According to Narsingh Sherkhane, assistant commissioner of police (Powai area), Gupta and Mohan have been accused of raping the minor and supplying the girl to their friends who sexually exploited her.

“We arrested Gupta on Sunday evening from his house in Powai after we confirmed his role,” said Sherkhane. The police are now on a look out for the builder and another man who were Mohan’s friends.

“Gupta’s role was the same as Mohan. Both the men are accused of raping the girl,” said Rajneesh Seth, joint commissioner of police (law and order).

Sources in the Powai police station said Gupta and Mohan had taken the victim to a lodge in Sakinaka and raped her.

“We will produce Gupta and Mohan in court on Monday. Their DNA samples would be sent for examination,” said Sanjeev Dayal, commissioner of Mumbai police.

The girl gave birth to a premature baby on October 19. The victim has been given 24-hour police protection.

Cops yet to arrest senior inspector

The police continue their search for senior inspector Arun Borude, who is accused of raping a girl.
Borude, who has been absconding, is reportedly unwell. His lawyer Vaibhav Bagade said he would file an anticipatory bail application this week. Sanjeev Dayal, commissioner of police, said: “We will surely arrest him soon.”
When asked why Borude’s DNA sample was not taken, Dayal refused to comment. HTC
