A few hours after a senior citizen was found dead in Dadar, another elderly woman was found killed in her house in Worli on Friday.
Vandana Kadam (73) was found strangled in her residence in building 7, BDD chawl at Worli.
Kadam used to run a small-time pandal and mandap decoration business.
On Friday around 8.30 am, a customer came to her house to discuss a business matter and found the door ajar.
“The witness told that he found it strange that a woman who stays alone would be so careless. He pushed open the door of the one-room house and went in. He said he saw Kadam lying dead in the living room,” said the police.
He then raised an alarm and a neighbour called the police.
The police found that the cupboard in the bedroom had been ransacked. “Kadam had three daughters, all of them married, who used to visit her regularly. From their statements, we have learnt that 70 gm of gold and Rs 50,000 are missing. Robbery seems to be the motive,” the police added.
The police are talking to Kadam’s neighbours and business associates to identify suspects and find witnesses to find out who had visited Kadam’s house in the past 24 hours.
“We suspect that the murderer was known to Kadam, as there were no signs of forced entry in the flat. As Ganeshotsav is a day away, the killed must have known that she had large amount of cash in the house,” said Bharat Worlikar, senior police inspector of Worli police station.
