Yet another Minister follows in Ashok Chavan’s footsteps and has added 'Patil' to his name.
Taking a cue from Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, who recently added a ‘Rao’ to his name, Women and Child Development Minister Subhash Zanak also wants to add ‘Patil’ in his name.
“A circular has been issued in the department and to the publicity department, asking to change the official name of Subhash Zanak to Subhash Zanak (Patil),” an official from Mantralaya said.
As per the circular, the minister’s name would be changed soon, the official said. Patil is a popular surname in dominant Maratha community.
Last month, the old nameplate at Chief Minister's official residence 'Varsha' in Malabar Hill as well as in Mantralaya bearing Ashok Chavan's name gave way to a shiny brass one with the name 'Ashokrao Chavan'.
At the time, Vilasrao Deshmukh took a dig at Chavan his one-time protege, saying no leader could force people to give respect. “It should be left to people’s wish whether to add “Rao” in the name or not," Deshmukh said.
Chavan even had his name changed on the nameplate of his office.
