The National Counter Terrorism Centre — the intelligence superstructure patterned on the US counter-terrorism centre to end compartments within the security establishment — is expected to be fully operational as an independent entity within the next five years.

In its final form, the intelligence superstructure will subsume the Multi-Agency Centre and the proposed National Intelligence Grid.

The Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) — that has representatives from all central security agencies including paramilitary and intelligence bodies — is already in place in Delhi and is being linked to parallel bodies at the state level for seamless transmission of data.

The National Intelligence Grid (Natgrid) is still on the drawing board.
