Starting July 24, ten art galleries in Fort and Colaba area have decided to stay open on the fourth Sunday of every month. Also, on the second Thursday of every month — starting August 11 — these galleries will stay open three hours longer, shutting at 9pm instead of 6.
The 10 galleries are calling this the Art 4 Sunday initiative, an attempt to draw people to these establishments and foster a greater interest in art, particularly in light of the diminished post-recession art market.
Also on the cards is a cross-promotional campaign with restaurants in the areas. “It would be a win-win situation for us and the restaurants,” said Usha Mirchandani, owner of Gallerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke. “Plus, their involvement might push foodies who have never visited a gallery to drop by.”
Sree Goswami, owner of Project 88, said: “We are hoping the initiative will benefit art enthusiasts as well as galleries.”
