On receiving a complaint, the ACB team monitoring the helpline will inform the region from where the complaint was made

You will now be able to report complaints of bribery on WhatsApp on state anti-corruption bureau’s (ACB) number 9930997700.

The state ACB feels the Whatsapp helpline will help them get more complaints. Apart from receiving complaints/suggestions through messages, people will also be able to post pictures and video clips against any corrupt government officer demanding bribe, which could act as vital evidence against the accused to initiate further action. “Nowadays, people prefer communicating on WhatsApp. It is one of the new initiatives introduced by us,” said Sanjay Barve, additional director general, ACB.

The state ACB already has a presence on social media with their accounts on Facebook and Twitter. On receiving a complaint, the ACB team monitoring the helpline will inform the region from where the complaint was made. The officials from the jurisdiction concerned will then get in touch with the complainant for details and initiate further action such as setting up a trap.

ACB sources said an FIR will be registered only after the police station or officials concerned verify the complaint. The information will be kept classified and the source will be protected. The idea behind the move is to ensure the force gets quick information, and remains easily accessible to citizens.
