Assailants shoot, stab builder to death

A 35-year-old builder in Diva was shot dead on Monday morning by unknown assailants while he was on his way to work. The assailants first fired a round at the builder, and later stabbed him with a knife.

According to the Mumbra police, the victim, Sandeep Vaman Patil, 35, a unit head of the Shiv Sena and a builder by profession, is a resident of Diva (West). The incident took place between 9:30am and 9:45am on Monday, near Bhagatwadi in Sabe village, Diva (East).

According to the statement given by Vaman Patil, Sandeep’s father who is also the complainant in the case, Sandeep was walking to office when the incident took place. “The father said seven to eight assailants first fired two rounds, of which one bullet hit Sandeep on the head and another on the chest. They later stabbed Sandeep with a sharp weapon. He was rushed to a private hospital in Dombivli, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival,” said a police officer from Mumbra police station.

“We have registered a case against seven to eight people. Only one bullet was found in the body of the builder, who was also stabbed. We are waiting for the medical report after the post mortem. We have prepared the team to search for the assailants,” said inspector Sadik Bhagwan.

A case has been registered under sections the IPC, the Arms Act, 1959 and Bombay Police Act, 1951. “A complaint was filed a month ago over a land dispute, which had been ongoing for the past few years. The complainant claimed he was attacked for the same dispute five months ago. He claimed it could be the work of Nagraj Patil, a local from Diva who hired goons,” said a cop.
