A joyride for four teenagers ended tragically on Tuesday when the car they were in spun out of control at Peddar Road and hit a road divider, killing one of them. The other three occupants of the car are seriously injured. According to the police,

Shifa Sheikh, 16, was returning home with three others at 1.15 am when her friend Faizan Sardar, 19, who was at the wheel, lost control of the car and hit the road divider near the Cadbury junction on Peddar Road.

The police said Faizan was speeding when he hit the divider. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car turned over twice and hit another car, a Toyota Altis, parked on the other side of the road. “Shifa was killed on the spot while the other three were injured,” said Sanjay Diwadkar, senior police inspector of Gamdevi police station. The injured, Sania Deshmukh, 17, Mohsin Sheikh, 17, and Faizan were taken to JJ Hospital and then to Jaslok Hospital.

“Two of them, including Shifa, were students of NM College, while the others were students of Mithibai College. We are yet to record their statements,” he said.

“We believe Faizan was driving at 120kmph when the collision happened. The four were returning home from Nariman Point to their homes in Mahim when the accident happened,” said an inspector at Gamdevi police station.

A passer-by who saw the accident called the police control room after which the Gamdevi police were alerted. The police confirmed that Faizan was not drunk at the time of the accident.
