Students who had not applied previously for junior college, which includes IGCSE students who get their results in August and those allowed to keep term, will be able to apply from September 3, the education department has said.

“We will put up list of vacancies according to college at the deputy director’s office on September 3 and students can then apply offline,” said an official from the education department, requesting anonymity.

On the first day after the third general list was issued 3,398 students had taken admission after 30,632 were allotted seats, which means 27,216 students did not report.

“Students would have already taken admission through the minority, in-house and management quotas which is why so many didn’t report,” said the official.

Though the admissions process has been extended to beyond September 3, colleges that have filled most of their seats are looking to re-open by September 1. Some, such as St Xavier’s College at Dhobi Talao, have already reopened.

Students are eagerly waiting for term to begin, given the long-drawn out admissions process. “I’ve been whiling away time with friends all this while, it’s been a long wait and I’m looking forward to college reopening,” said Alifiya Lakdawala, 15, who will begin classes at MMK College at Bandra on Monday.
