Auto driver arrested for setting ablaze traffic cop

The auto driver, who set ablaze a traffic police constable after being fined for traffic violation at Vasai in neighbouring Thane district, was today arrested, police said.

The auto driver, who set ablaze a traffic police constable after being fined for traffic violation at Vasai in neighbouring Thane district, was on Thursday arrested, police said.

The rickshaw driver, Mahendra Kevat, was arrested from Keravali area in Vasai in the wee hours, said a police official from Manikpur police station.

Constable Anil Aitodekar was set on fire by Kevat on Wednesday when the former had taken action against the auto driver for not following traffic norms.

The victim, who sustained 50 per cent burns, was immediately rushed to the nearby Golden Park hospital and is undergoing treatment, police said.
