City Samajwadi Party president Abu Azmi (54), BJP candidate Poonam Mahajan (29) and Congress candidate in Mumbadevi, Amin Patel, are among the richest of the candidates who filed their nominations on Friday.
At the time of going to press, 2,200 candidates had filed their nominations on the last day for 288 seats for the Assembly elections to be held on October 13.
Some of the candidates include Amit Deshmukh (Latur), Abu Azmi (Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar), Amin Patel (Mumbadevi), Adesh Bandekar (Mahim) and Sada Sarvankar (Mahim).
Azmi is the richest candidate in the city, with assets worth over Rs 116 crore.
When he earlier contested the Lok Sabha election in 2009, he declared his assets at Rs 125 crore.
Late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s daughter Poonam declared assets worth Rs 20.96 crore, while Patel, a businessman and corporator, declared assets worth Rs 20.16 crore.
Rajendra Shekhawat, controversial Congress nominee from Amravati and son of President Pratibha Patil, and his wife Manjuri declared assets worth Rs 6.65-crore while filing nominations on Friday.
His rival and Congress rebel Sunil Deshmukh, who also filed his nominations on Friday, declared immovable assets worth over Rs 2.8 crore, and moveable assets worth Rs 65.5 lakh.
